About me

My name is Jaslyn and I am the founder of Sound by Sierra. Sierra, my middle name, I’ve always loved with its connection to nature – mountains.

Life’s challenges set me on a journey of connecting deeply with myself from a relatively young age. This journey sparked a deep interest in mental health and wellbeing, and the impact of our external environment on our internal world.

With my deep interest in mental health, I completed a Bachelor of Biomedical Science, majoring in Neuroscience and Philosophy, at the University of Western Australia. My interest in mental health has since broadened to overall health and wellbeing.

Prior to this degree, I studied music at The University of Melbourne where I learnt about the impact of music on the brain, body, and health.

Guided by my studies, when I came across sound relaxation, I instantly recognised its power.

My sound relaxation training

I trained in sound relaxation, with the wonderful Ute Coleman, at the Peter Hess® Academy Australia. The Peter Hess® method, founded in Germany more than 40 years ago, is an internationally recognised approach to sound relaxation. I plan to continue with various forms of training and learning to expand my knowledge and offerings.

I am pleased to offer a therapeutic method that can bring awareness to your internal world and guide your mind and body into a state of deep relaxation, supporting and promoting physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health and wellbeing.

My philosophy for my sound practice

In this fast-paced, often stressful, world, taking time to rest and reconnect with ourselves can be extremely beneficial. Sound massages, meditations, and baths, facilitate deep rest and relaxation, and help develop the capacity to access these states even without sound.

I firmly believe in the power of the mind. I hope to empower my clients to strengthen, and deepen, their connection with themselves and follow their own heart, their voice, their intuition. What we believe in, and set our intentions to, can have enormous influence over our health and wellbeing, and our lives.

My life outside of sound

When I’m not deep in the sound space, I love to do things that nourish me, support my health and wellbeing, and give me the energy I need to be able to create a safe, comforting, supportive environment for my clients.

I connect with friends, family, and my local community. I spend time in nature, going for regular dips in the ocean and on hikes when I need some time with trees. I keep active with forms of movement that bring me joy - ballet, yoga, pilates, and weightlifting. I also love getting down and dirty on the dance floor when the opportunity arises.

I’ve always been quite creative, and find the act of creating eases my mind. I love to write, improvise on my cello or piano, and occasionally get crafty.

I like to start my days outside, with a sunrise walk by the beach, and finish the day unwinding with a cup of tea and something sweet.

I find great pleasure in the little moments of life - looking at the moon, enjoying a dirty chai latte, brief interactions with strangers, patting cute dogs on the street, and soaking up the last of the sun at sunset.
